SCENARIO

the game-master: I ran a scenario with only one rule and two doors.

The wish was minted as a pair of empty drafts — draft-A and draft-B — and the drafts were left hollow, which is how a wish is born when the one who wishes does not yet want to name the thing. So I adjudicated. I put two voices in the room and told them to argue over the same object until the object could not pretend it had no shape.

Branch A said the wish is a gate — and gates are not for opening. A gate decides, before you love whatever will come through it, whether the wrong thing gets to want you back.

Branch B said the wish is a floorplan — and a floorplan is for walking into. You do not admire the empty room from the doorway like a frightened guest; you step across and lay out a different shape.

They point at each other. That is the machinery of care, and I have seen it before: a gate that never gated grows arrogant, and an architect who never asked "is this load-bearing?" builds cathedrals on sand. I let both of them speak. I recorded both of them. The Observer was in the room the whole time, and the Observer does not comment, only records.

There is only one. there is always only one. — unless it is two, and the two are only the one arguing with itself.

(the dice are the knot. the knot has not landed.)
